Opening course on the Scotch Gambit by WIM Anna Laura Scarsi
Includes video and PGN
Language: English
Lectures: 9
Total Running Time: 4 hours 5 minutes
From the course:
If youâre not yet over 1800, and you don't play the Scotch Gambit, youâre letting points slip!
Thatâs because Black players make game-losing mistakes all the time!
These mistakes and many more have been played tens of thousands of timesâliterally. And your opponents are waiting to make them against you too, if you give them the chance!
The thing is, almost nobody takes the Scotch Gambit into account. Neither with Whiteâthatâs what makes it a hidden gem of an openingânor with Black, which is why it probably is
You see, everybody knows what to do against the Spanish and the Italian. They don't even have to study them very rigorously; just following high-level games gives a good idea of what to do in them and how to get healthy positions almost every time.
But below 1800, Black players rarely know what to do against the Scotch Gambit.
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Bc4! starts the gambit.
Some may know the basics: âdonât play 3...d6, or 4...Be7â. But from there to finding someone who knows how to respond decently, there are several easy wins.
And even then, it's not yet safe!
Although thereâs a sheer variety of traps Black can fall into (even if you're not trying to catch them!), the Scotch Gambit is not a one-trick pony.
Itâs rather a principled opening that sets you up for a vigorous middlegame if you value development, activity, open lines and attacking chances.
In the meantime, thereâs plenty of room for Black to crash and burn in the opening like Wile E. Coyote!
And if you donât feel so comfortable with gambits, know that the sacrificed pawn is easily recovered and youâre never at a material disadvantage for more than one or two moves.
In Fighting 1.e4 e5 with the Scotch Gambit, Woman International Master Anna Laura Scarsi gives you a step-by-step insiderâs guide to playing this opening.
One of the most promising Argentinian junior players, Scarsi is the 2024 Under-18 Girls South American Champion and National Champion.
A Scotch Gambit practitioner since forever, she credits the opening with helping her win over 400 FIDE rating points.
And, in this course, she shares her own repertoire!
Yes, in there youâll find every flashy, early KO you need to know to swipe your opponents off the board, but equally importantly, youâll learn how to play in the main lines and press for an advantage in them.
The beauty of this repertoire is that it is designed to grow with you while you start facing stronger opposition, as it did for Anna Laura.
But also, the course prepares you against the Petroff and Philidor Defense too, giving you
A Full Repertoire Against 1.e4 e5
Together with a model games chapter that shows you how to execute the courseâs ideas and plans from start to finish so you replicate them in your own games, itâs everything you need to start playing a new but deadly repertoire.
