Il film racconta la storia di una giornalista di nome Lo (Keira Knightley) che si imbarca su uno yacht con l'incarico di scrivere un articolo e si ritrova intrappolata in una ragnatela di complotti e misteri. Dopo aver visto, durante una notte, un passeggero gettato in mare, si accorge con orrore che i suoi compagni di navigazione cercano di persuaderla che l'incidente non è mai accaduto. A quel punto Lo decide di indagare, stando bene attenta a non chiedere l'aiuto di nessuno.
