Dr. No

ActionAdventureThriller

When Strangways, the British SIS Station Chief in Jamaica goes missing, MI6 send James Bond - Agent 007 to investigate. His investigation leads him to the mysterious Crab Key; the secret base of Dr No who he suspects is trying to sabotage the American space program using a radio beam. With the assistance of local fisherman Quarrel, who had been helping Strangways, Bond sneaks onto Crab Key where he meets the beautiful Honey Ryder. Can the three of them defeat an army of henchmen and a "fire breathing dragon" in order to stop Dr No, save the space program and get revenge for Strangways? Dr. No is the first film of legendary James Bond series starring Sean Connery in the role of Fleming's British super agent.

Intro:

This is the 2025 UHD Blu-ray release of Dr. No, with freshly remastered audio and video rescanned at 4k from the original negatives at the intended 1.75:1 aspect ratio. This remaster doesn't try and hide film grain, or artificially sharpen, but the detail is all present in the HDR encode.

Multi-Resolution Selectable Release

This torrent release includes the following folders which you can select using your torrent program of choice:
- 720p, 1260x720 resolution re-sampled from 4k and re-encoded at ~1800kbps VBR
- 1080p, 1890x1080 resolution re-sampled from 4k and re-encoded at ~4000kbps VBR
- 4k, 3780x2160 resolution re-encoded at ~12000kbps VBR
- Extras, all Blu-Ray extra features. The extras are distributed encoded using h264 (AVC) at 1080 with various letterboxing to make into 16:9. The letterbox on these has been preserved to facilitate re-muxing back into a single or combined videos. They have, however, been re-encoded in HEVC at ~800kbps VBR video with 96 kbps AAC audio.

Cropping:

This UHD Blur-Ray release is, unusually for modern films, letterboxed on the sides to render the Blu-Ray's internal 1.75:1 at 16:9. This letterboxing has been cropped.

Unfortunately, the 30 pixel side letterbox is 2 pixels shy of an HEVC Coding Tree Unit (CTU). This causes the first two and last two picture pixels of each row to be "poisoned" by the letterbox. My releases typically crop the poisoned pixels along with the letterbox, but with the film grain and being already very close to 16:9 aspect ratio (and thus being very close to any 16:9 display's physical edge), with this release the poisoned pixels were left in and this release is at the full intended 1.75:1.

Audio:

7.1 and foreign language tracks were removed for space. The 5.1 DTS track is retained on the 4k and 1080p versions. The surround tracks are (as expected for a movie of this era) quite front-heavy, and there is little gained in the 7.1 atmos track in any case. However the 7.1 track was used to downmix to stereo using a tweaked version of my own downmix formula that produces richer audio than the Blu-Ray's studio-included stereo track. This was encoded at 160kbps AAC.

The studio completely remastered the audio for this UHD Blu-Ray release, however the original stereo theatrical audio track was included on the Blu-Ray and is added to all versions here, encoded at 96kbps AAC.

Also included are the English described audio and commentrary tracks, both also encoded at 96kbps AAC.

Subtitles:

The PGS raster subtitles in this Blu-ray are obnoxious and hugely wasteful of space. All subtitles are therefore converted with "MKV Subtitle Convertor" from the original PGS .sup to simple Subrip text.

The Tesseract OCR used by this is superior to most commercial offerings and virtually all online ones.

Still, it isn't perfect. Only the English theatrical subtitles were spell checked and preened. All other subtitles are as OCRed.

If you have the language skills and inclination to clean up subtitles, leave a messsage on the 1337x release page for this torrent.

SRT files for all subtitles are included. In order that they appear in the video stream, they are:

0a.srt English (hearing-impaired)
1.srt French
2.srt German
3.srt Italian
4.srt Danish
5.srt Spanish
6.srt Dutch

Enjoy!

~~~Redwave~~~
Redwave releases are contemporary reencodes of classic movies with the best possible current codecs. They are done at bitrates that allow for quality viewing at file sizes that don't break the bank for long-term retention.
When downmixed to 1080p, the conversion is done starting from the highest resolution available, normally 4k UHD, using end-to-end 10-bit HDR clean workflows. They are cropped from any offending letterbox along with any pixel rows compromised by the letterbox encode, giving only crisp picture.
The audio is downmixed from the best, generally 7.1 lossless, channels using a custom downmix formula that gives far richer audio than the studio's own (consolation prize) included stereo channel, then encoded with AAC at 160kbit. All commentary tracks are included.
Subtitles are ripped and OCR-converted from bitmap formats to SRT for widest possible compatibility and are simultaneously encoded in the container, and included as separate files. The main English OCR is spell-checked and manually preened.
Quality encodes, end-to-end.
