Paul Jensen, een riooljournalist, vlucht weg uit Berlijn en begint te werken voor een tabloid in Moskou, uitgegeven door zijn mentor Alexei Onjegin. Hij slaagt er al snel in om het succes en de oplage van de krant te verhogen. Zijn leven is ÊÊn groot feest tot hij de mooie activiste Katja ontmoet en op haar verliefd wordt. Zij overtuigt hem om een politiek getinte doodsbrief in de krant te publiceren. Vanaf dat moment zal Pauls leven drastisch veranderen. Hij wordt gearresteerd op verdenking van terrorisme. Wanneer hij met de hulp van Onjegin vrijkomt, wordt hij geconfronteerd met andere geheimen uit zijn leven en moet hij de politieke samenzwering tegen hem oplossen.
