Een groep gepensioneerde gangsters besluit nog eenmaal samen te komen voor ÊÊn laatste epische nacht. Val (Pacino) heeft er net een gevangenisstraf van 28 jaar opzitten, enkel en alleen omdat hij weigerde ÊÊn van zijn criminele vrienden te verraden. Zijn beste vriend Doc (Walken) haalt hem op aan de gevangenispoort, en de twee nemen al gauw contact op met een andere oude vriend, Hirsch (Arkin). Hun band is nog steeds erg sterk en de drie halen oude herinneringen op. Ondanks hun leeftijd zijn hun capaciteiten om herrie en onrust te veroorzaken nog steeds intact. Kogels vliegen in het rond wanneer ze een hilarische poging wagen om de decennia van misdaad, drugs en seks die ze gemist hebben te compenseren.
