This EP has some of the earlier recordings of Chris Barber's popular trad band. The music is from three different occasions: a studio date in 1954 and two concerts in 1954-1955. Barber's pianoless septet already had their own sound, featuring the leader's trombone, cornetist Patrick Halcox, clarinetist Monty Sunshine, and banjoist Lonnie Donegan. Singer Ottilie Patterson made her debut with the band on the 1955 concert. This group helped keep Dixieland alive in England ever since.
