Youngblood Hawke is a truck driver who arrives in New York City intent on making it as a writer. Aided by friendly editor Jeanne Green, Hawke's star is on the rise, both among the intelligentsia and the jet set. As he exercises a powerful spell over every woman he meets Hawke inevitably succumbs to the lures of high society. Although fictionalised, the novel and movie are based on the life story of author Thomas Wolfe.
