Episode 5 - St Edward's Presbytery and Astley Castle

The restoration begins at St Edward’s Presbytery, a Grade I listed masterpiece designed and originally owned by one of Britain’s greatest ever architects, Augustus Pugin. Conservation Manager Alastair Dick-Cleland oversees the complex recreation of a vast oriel window destroyed in the 1950s. Furnishings Manager John Evetts must call upon a small army of master craftspeople to get Belmont House ready for its first paying guests. And at Astley Castle, once home to three queens of England, historian Anna Keay learns about the secret technique holding together this ground-breaking piece of architecture.
