OaklandWORKS which is an advocacy alliance in Oakland fought to get a local hire policy which states that 50% of jobs on the Oakland Army Base redevelopment project would go to Oakland residents. This is a unique policy which was adopted and has yet to be fulfilled. This policy was agreed upon by The City of Oakland and the developer of the project. OaklandWORKS current focus is the Oakland Army Base redevelopment project. OaklandWORKS mission is to advocate for Oakland’s underrepresented communities and the traditionally underserved in the areas of economics, social, and environmental justice.
